Poole, UK, 16 August 2024. Yunex Traffic has completed the roll out of a Collaborative Traffic Management (CTM) solution for National Highways.  This means that a common hosted urban traffic control (UTC) system is now operating across all the organisation’s seven regions in England.

The new National Highways hosted UTC system (UTC-UX) enables a consistent approach to be taken to traffic signal control, fault and network management across England’s complete strategic road network, providing the foundation for CTM.  The system is designed to improve road users’ experience where National Highways and Local Highway Authority networks interface, enabling free-flowing, safe, secure and efficient journeys.

UTC-UX will deliver a range of benefits to operators and road users

Two other Yunex Traffic systems complement UTC-UX, which combine to provide the backbone of the CTM solution.  The company’s Stratos traffic management system provides control of traffic signals and enables strategies to be implemented, and its InView solution delivers a fully-hosted solution for both network control and fault management.

The national picture is now complete

Completing the national picture, two new UTC-UX systems have now been deployed in National Highways’ West Midlands and North West regions, covering over 200 sites.  Brought into operation in March 2024, the UTC-UX systems are complemented by five new Stratos systems providing cloud-hosted connectivity to 380 roadside control cabinets across the Southwest, East, East Midlands, West Midlands, and North West regions. 

The fully integrated CTM system will now provide monitoring, control and management capabilities for all National Highways’ traffic signals, giving high quality information for traffic management teams and enhancing the strategic planning capability of National Highways.  It will also enable more collaborative working with different stakeholder groups, helping teams to proactively reduce congestion at hotspots and create smoother traffic flows across the whole road network.
